Handicap Calculation
Our handitracker tool automatically calculates each golfer's handicap. We use a
modified form of the USGA handicap formula to calculate handicaps. According to
the USGA handicap system, a scoring record must be kept for each golfer. The
golfer's scoring record is made up of the last twenty eightteen-hole rounds
played by that golfer.
Since golf courses may vary in difficulty, a factor called a differential is
calculated for every round a golfer plays to adjust for the difficulty of the
course. The differential factor is calculated from the course rating and the
slope rating found on the score card of each course played.
Handicaps are calculated by averaging a golfer's best ten differentials in their
scoring record and then multiplying this number by 96%. The final number is then
truncated to one decimal place.
